SolarEdge Customers 3G Modem Phaseout
SolarEdge Customers 3G Modem Phaseout
Overview
Beginning at the end of February, major telecommunications providers like AT&T and Verizon will phase out their support of more than 22 million 3G communications devices—including critical equipment some of our solar customers’ systems use to measure, record, and communicate production data.
As a result of this phaseout, these 3G modems will stop automatically reporting system output and performance. Additionally, Solterra Solar will lose the ability to see how the system is performing and address any interruptions that may arise throughout the lifespan of your system.

If you are an impacted customer, this inevitable change is happening a little earlier than the 5-year expected life of the product, but experts say they are confident that 4G will be around for at least another decade. And, while there is no fine for not swapping out your equipment, there are some tangible benefits to you with this 4G modem package. SolarEdge will include a 4G cell plan through 2028 as part of your modem replacement package, and you will have the benefit of this plan now updating your data every 5-10 minutes vs. every four hours.
